Event: ThundersportGB Round 1
Track: Mallory Park
Bike: Aprilia SXV 550
Weather: Wet/Damp

Streetfighter class rules and regs: Straight through handlebars, No Fairings, Road legal tyres only in dry conditions and a power cap of 130bhp

Streetfighter Qualifying
It was fully wet for qualifying which is pretty good for the Supermoto. The main problem that I was going to encounter throughout the day was the fact I wasn't allowed to use a supermoto style of riding and I had to ride with my knee out. Although it wasn't a major problem I would say it was still losing me about 1-2 seconds per lap which around Mallory is a lot of time. Anyway, I soon got into the swing of the old knee down styleee and I managed to secure pole by nearly 8 seconds in my class and nearly 4 seconds from the next rider (as there were a couple of classes run together) With my pace I decided to have a go in the sound of Thuner class too.
Finished: 1st

Sound Of Thunder rules and Regs: Anything goes so long as it has 1,2,3, or 5 cyclinders

Sound Of Thunder Qualifying
This was going to be a little more difficult. I was now up against bikes such as the Ducati 999's which had about 100 bhp more than my little 550 SXV. Not only that but we were grouped in with the GP1 class which has no rules at all meaning if Casey Stoner turned up on his MotoGP bike, he could ride. Thankfully Casey stayed at home but a whole host of 1000 and 600 cc Yams, Kwaks, Suzukis and Hondas turned up. The speed differential down the straights was monumental but my Supermoto was far superior around the corners and that was despite the fact I had to ride knee down. At the end of the session I was kind of dissapointed to be 4th and 1 second away from pole position but I was first in my class so I looked good for the race
Finished: 1st in class (4th on the grid)

Streetfighter race 1
I got off in the lead from pole and for the first few laps just bedded myself in. Paul Rhodes who was on another SXV 550 (but entered in the Junior Powerbike class) kept me honest for a few laps but then I was able to pull away and have a comfortable run to the finish at the end of the 10 lap race
Finished: 1st

Sound Of Thunder Race

This was a 20 lap race and although I knew I had the Sound of Thunder race pretty much in the bag so long as I didn't do anything silly, I was set on doing well against the GP1 lads. By now there was a dry line on the circuit which was actually a really bad thing for me as I knew they could pass me down the straights but with the dry line it now meant I would have to go onto the damp to make any moves in the corners. I got a really good jump off the line but by the first corner I was still down in 7th. I made a few passes around Gerrard and then I started a mega battle with a 600 Honda and ZX10. the two big bikes would pass me down the straights and then I was usually able to duff them up again in the turns and at time there as plenty of contact which was kinda dangerous but was mega fun. As the race went on the 600 got to the front of the group of 3 and I made it past the ZX10 to set off after him. I tried to up the pace and then had a massive highside situation coming out of Gerrards which put me on the grass down the back straight. My heart was pounding but luckily I stayed on two wheels. With about 6 of the 20 lap race laft to go my bike developed a bit of an electrical problem which was cutting power out of the slower turns and I again lost 4th to the ZX10 but I still won the sound of thunder class.

Finished: 1st in Class (5th overall)

Streetfighter Race 2

I got done over by a junior powerbike going into the first trn for my final race of the day and I sat behind him for half a lap. I made my move and pulled a gap immediately. The track was good as dry now and I had wet tyres on which were shredded so I had a great laugh trying to get my Aprilia to spin up round some of the faster corners.

Finished: 1st
