Pre-season Update After a bit of a wait I fnally recieved got my new Apilia and straight away I couldnt wait to get on it. At the moment I only have a training bike here in England which has a standard engine and chassis but with different forks, exhaust and engine map. My first ride on the Aprilia was at Trax. It was just a shakedown day for me so I could blow away all those cobwebs and try to get back up to some kind of reasonable pace. Even so, I felt really good on the bike and we made one or two minor alterations to the bike that really helped. After a good day around the tight and twisty Trax circuit I went totally the opposite in terms of tracks for a day at Mallory Park. I had been there before on the Husaberg and its great fun thrashin a Supermoto bike around a big circuit such as Mallory.Unfortunately the weather didnt hold up to well but it meant that I got the chance to get used to the feeling of the V-twin in the wet conditions. There was a good British supersport rider there and in the wet conditions the Aprilia kicked ass and was the fastest bike around the circuit. Finally I went to the Superbmotard trackday at Rowrah for a day of hit and miss weather that eventually turned out dry for the most part. It was good to get the bike back on a smaller circuit again and really get myself comfortable. I started the day not feeling too confident but we, as always, worked our way through a number of settings and more importantly I started to pick up the pace a bit so at the end of the day the Aprilia was realy going well. A lot of people have asked me how the Aprilia compares to my previous bikes. Well, in terms of the chassis, everything feels pretty simiar but it is obviously the v-twin engine where the bike really differs. The Aprilia revs much higher than any single which means a lot less gear changes are used. The fuel injection system also has implications, espescially on the tight corners where a steady hand is needed to keep the bike behaving as it should. I'm off to Italy next week for a week of testing on my full factory bikes and I can't wait. My first race of the year will be the Italian Championship on the 17th April followed by the first World Championship on the 30th April so expect many more race reports and pics to be uploaded soon. |

Following a day of testing I finally put pen to paper to sign for the Factory Aprilia team for 2006. The deal will be primarily focussed on the World Championship as well selected events in the UK and Italy. The test was held in some pretty terrible conditions and I even managed to crash half way round my first lap on the bike! Nevertheless, we continued to work and found a good feeling for the bike and a good base setting. The revolutionary V-twin design produces an incredible range of power and I am really looking forward to racing. Everyone at Aprilia has been very helpful and I am very optimistic about my chances in the World Championship this season.
